Have just been reading "Journey To The Edge Of The World" by Billy Connolly over the last few days. A book that my lovely Mom sent with love a couple of months back. In his own unique and original way Billy re traces the journey from Atlantic to Pacific through the legendary Northwest Passage through Canada. On the ten week journey through dramatic, breathtaking and sometimes barren lanscapes he encounters many different characters along the way experiencing many facets of their isolated lives and traditions in ways that only Billy could so colorfully describe. Sometimes his nuggets of hilarity and absurd descriptions are mirrored at times by the profoundly sad and bleak existences that the inhabitants of the Northwest Passage and wild Canada carve out for themselves. There were many moments throughout the book that made me laugh out loud and equally many others that made my heart sink a little.
I seldom read a book these days unless it's something that I know is going to interest me enough to spare it the time. I wasn't expecting and didn't know about this book until it arrived on my desk from Mom but it will be one that I definitely will hold on to and read again. Can't recommend it enough!
